The honest answer is: it depends — but most couples in Dubai dance a confident, camera-ready first dance after around 6 to 10 lessons. A simple, elegant routine to a steady song can come together faster; a longer track, tempo changes, a dip or a lift, or wanting it to look truly polished will all add lessons.
The single biggest factor is how early you start. Beginning two to three months before the wedding turns the whole experience from a rush into something relaxed and even fun — there is time to learn the steps, let them settle, and rehearse until they feel automatic under the lights. Leaving it to the final fortnight is possible, but the routine has to stay simpler and the practice more intense.
Your starting point matters less than people expect. The vast majority of couples have never danced before, and that is completely normal — a good first-dance routine is built around what you can genuinely perform, not around impressing the teacher. The aim is for the two of you to look comfortable and connected, because that is what wedding guests (and the photographer) actually remember.
A practical plan: book a first session early, agree on your song and the feeling you want, then let your coach recommend a lesson count after seeing you dance once. Between lessons, ten minutes of practice at home goes a surprisingly long way.
